Ngorongoro Crater Tanzania
Ngorongoro Crater, located in Tanzania's Ngorongoro Conservation Area, is a breathtaking natural wonder and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Often called the "Eighth Wonder of the World," this volcanic caldera is one of the best-preserved on Earth.
The crater formed about 2 to 3 million years ago when a volcano erupted and then collapsed. It's about 19 kilometers (12 miles) wide and 610 meters (2,000 feet) deep, creating a unique, enclosed habitat for various wildlife.
Ngorongoro Crater is a prime spot for wildlife viewing. It’s home to the “Big Five” animals: lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and leopard. You can also see wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, hyenas, and many bird species, including flamingos that gather at Lake Magadi inside the crater. The crater is known for having one of the highest concentrations of lions and is a crucial sanctuary for the endangered black rhino.
