Samburu National Reserve

Nairobi National Park, established in 1946, is a special wildlife reserve just 7 kilometers from Nairobi's city center. It’s a unique place where you can see wildlife with the city skyline in the background.

The park is home to various animals like lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, and different types of antelopes. It also has a famous sanctuary for both black and white rhinos. Bird lovers can spot over 400 species, including ostriches and the colorful lilac-breasted roller.

Thanks to its location, the park is easy to visit for both locals and tourists. The landscape is varied, with open grass plains, acacia bushes, and riverine forests along the Athi River, providing a rich environment for plants and animals.

Visitors can enjoy activities like game drives, guided walking trails, and educational tours at the Nairobi Safari Walk. Next to the park is the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an elephant orphanage where you can see baby elephants up close and learn about their care.

The best time to visit is during the dry season (July to October) for the best wildlife viewing. The park has picnic sites, campsites, and rest areas. It's a good idea to check the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) website for the latest entrance fees.

Nairobi National Park’s close location to the city makes it a crucial green space for conservation and offers a rare chance to experience Kenya’s wildlife without leaving the city. It's a must-see for anyone visiting Nairobi.
